Phonemic Awareness – The Skills That They Need to Help Them Succeed. Early Pre-Kindergarten, Teal Manual. Based on the work of Dr. Michael Heggerty. This manual is designed for three- and four-year-old learners and can be integrated into half or full day programs. The 35-weeks of instruction provide teachers with lessons for “setting the stage” to help students learn about listening for sounds and developing an understanding of the language play activities. The skills of rhyme, initial phoneme isolation, and blending are also introduced at the beginning of instruction. Segmenting words and final phoneme isolation are introduced in later weeks of instruction.
